First Visit

firstvisitYour first appointment is an important one. Whether it is an actual surgery appointment or a consultation, it is the time that Dr. Cowan gathers the most information about you and your health history. We request that you provide us with the most up-to-date information regarding current and past medications, your overall health history, as well as any physical impairment. Oftentimes, patients with a lengthy medical history or medication list will provide us with a separate copy. If this is applicable to you, it will save valuable time on your health questionnaire. Most of our patients are referred by their family dentist or orthodontist. Many times, the dental provider will send you with a referral sheet. This sheet is very important as it is a communication tool between Dr. Cowan and your dentist. We suggest that  you arrive at least fifteen minutes early to your appointment so that you can carefully give us the information needed, and so that the doctor and surgical assistants have time to fully prepare for each patient.

We also find it essential that we have an x-ray when one is needed. It is a tool during surgery that is as important as any other. If you don’t bring one with you we will have to take one, and unfortunately many insurance companies don’t cover more than one x-ray in a certain time period, so you will have to pay for it. Please contact your dentist and be sure that your x-ray is either mailed, e-mailed or in your hands when you walk in the door.
